SEKOLAH DATO' ABDUL RAZAK or SDAR was first established in Johor Bahru on 1st May 1956, SDAR was initially called as Sekolah Menengah Melayu (Malay Secondary School). The principle establishment of this school came from the bill included in Razak Report 1956 . The objectives stated was to give the chance to Malay youth to further their studies after finishing their primary school during that time.
On May 1957, SDAR was relocated in Tanjung Malim, Perak and situated to share the campus with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) which formerly known as (Sultan Idris Teachers College SITC).
